Careers

Every young person needs high quality careers guidance to make informed decisions about their future. Acer Academy strive to raise the aspirations of our students and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

All students in Acer Academy will access a robust careers education programme that follows the Gatsby Benchmarks – a national standard of good practice - which was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in November 2017. The benchmarks are:

  • A stable careers programme
  • Learning from career and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal guidance

Career education is also taught through our Personal Development Curriculum.

We aim to bring in employers and partners that support careers education with an annual Careers Convention for students and parents and Careers Enrichment activities throughout the year.

Jack Ellis is our Careers Lead, he is passionate about providing students with meaningful experiences that inspire ambition and confidence. If you would like more information regarding the school careers education programme, please email Jack Ellis at [email protected] or contact 0161 464 3533

The Gatsby Benchmarks

Gatsby Benchmarks at Acer Academy

Our careers programme is delivered in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, the national framework for high-quality careers education.

The eight benchmarks remain the foundation of our programme, strengthened by a focus on leadership, inclusion, meaningful encounters, use of data and parent engagement.

5. Encounters with Employers and Employees
Regular, meaningful employer engagement through workshops, talks and activities.

6. Experiences of Workplaces
Work-related learning and preparation for employment.

7. Encounters with Further & Higher Education
